The Silent Clarion
"The loudest truths are often whispered in the shadows of silence."
The Silent Clarion is a conceptual illustration series by Malaysian artist OCMay.
It acts as a "sensitive mirror" to the fractured relationship between modern humanity,
the vanishing natural world, and the invisible scars of global conflict.
Through a meticulous surrealist lens, this series samples the quiet pulses of a world on the brink. Deeply rooted in the biodiversity of Southeast Asia, OCMay transforms the plight of endangered species into a visual manifesto for peace and coexistence. Each stroke is a note of a clarion call, not one that blares with noise, but one that resonates in the deep stillness of reflection. It is a haunting invitation to witness the sacrifices made in the name of progress and to answer the ultimate query: Coexist, or Collapse?
To Live, Together (?) |
Is "Peace" merely a fragile magic trick in our contemporary world?
<To Live, Together (?)> is a surrealist visual narrative that explores the fractured relationship between humanity, endangered wildlife, and the global climate. In this staged "Magic Show," three iconic Malaysian species, the Malayan Tiger, Tapir, and Sun Bear, are depicted as a co-joined entity, performing a tragic disappearance act.
As a melting red flag drips a cynical question mark from the promise of "living together," the background unfolds into an apocalyptic landscape of deforestation and raging conflict. This work serves as a "Silent Clarion", a visual manifesto reflecting on the environmental scars of war and the irony of human survival. By blending Southeast Asian biodiversity with a satirical critique of violence, the illustration poses a haunting final query:
"We share one Earth, or one grave,
what are we destroying just to survive?"
The Bulletproof Sanctuary |
A visually arresting and fiercely critical original from "The Silent Clarion" series, this artwork relentlessly deconstructs the classical emblem of the peace dove, completing a profound cross-examination of universal values. The entire scene is framed within the traditional wrought-iron grilles patterns typical of old Southeast Asian neighborhoods, transforming a cultural decorative element into a cage of modern civilization. Inside, a white dove clutching a withered olive branch stands in a deeply absurd posture, clad in a bulletproof vest. The flying bullet casings surrounding it reflect the cold, ominous silhouettes of humanity, while its feet are engulfed in thick black smoke and raging flames. Etched within the fire are burning interrogations: "How much must be sacrificed for what we call peace?" and "Whose peace?". Behind the dove, what appears to be a romantic full moon and a starry night is, in reality, the apocalyptic blast of wartime explosions. Through this paradoxical juxtaposition of grilles, body armor, and sacred symbols, the painting confronts the viewer with a decisive query: when peace must rely on ammunition and armor to survive, are we protecting civilization, or merely guarding a heavily fortified illusion?
